Green landscape of Black Corfu

This tour will make you feel cheerful. First, we’ll walk along the sea leaving the town behind. Then we’ll walk under the shade of pine trees leaving the asphalt behind. And lastly, we will not walk – we’ll just sit on a stone and chat, with the song of cicadas in the background.

Feel the nature’s pulse

On this walk you will bond with a pine forest, Mediterranean undergrowth, and dry stone walls built in order to create pockets of cultivable space. Pines, cypresses, holm oaks, carob trees, bay laurel, heathers, junipers, strawberry trees, rockrose, sage, rosemary, lavender… Can you recognize all of them? Many of these plant species are favored by bees and give local honey an irresistible fragrance. This vegetation makes a magnificent green backdrop, which may explain why the Greeks from Corfu named the island Black Corfu…

Forteca – a strong fort

In the forest, we’ll stumble across the round tower, Forteca, built at the beginning of the 19th century by the British. And we’ll suddenly be treading the rainwater collection system, Naplov, that is no longer in use. We’ll also climb graceful steps lined with 17th-century cypresses, to reach the top of St. Antony’s Hill. Korčula’s archipelago is clearly visible from there…

As a final touch to this tour, we’ll take you to an organic farm close to Korčula Town. We’ll meet a local beekeeper and learn about life in a beehive, the different jobs the bees are doing, how they make honey and why they are always as busy as a bee. At the end, you’ll taste different types of local honey. To bee, or not to bee – that is the question.
